Children's Day Out

What is CDO?

Children’s Day Out (CDO) offers flexible, part-time care for children from infancy through five years of age in a nurturing Christian environment. Our experienced staff—many with over 20 years in early childhood care—provide high-quality care in a warm, non-daycare setting. Through open play, peer-to-peer socialization, and meaningful, age-appropriate activities, children are encouraged to learn and grow with trusted caregivers guiding them every step of the way.

As part of our umbrella organization, Kirkwood United Methodist Children’s Center, CDO is able to offer not only standalone childcare, but also complementary care to your preschool schedule, early drop off  opportunities for children ages  2 ½ through Pre-K, or “on demand” care as necessary through our drop in and reservation options.

The flexible nature of CDO makes our program a good fit for many families with differing needs – we look forward to learning how we can serve you and your children.

Enrollment & Ways to Attend

Children’s Day Out has a capacity for 38 children at any given time divided into 3 separate age groups. Enrolled spots are limited for each age. When these are filled, families may make reservations or secure a drop-in spot on a specific day.

Enrollment in CDO guarantees your spot for attendance each week for the days and times chosen for your child(ren).

Enrollment in CDO is for a minimum of 2 ½ hours/visit with arrival times beginning at 9:00 am, 11:30 am, or 12:30 pm. Pick up times are 11:30, 12:30, and 3pm Monday-Thursday (12:30 is last pickup on Fridays)

Since our program is not a full-time daycare, we have limited enrollment as follows:

Tadpoles – no limit on visits per week
Pollywog / Frogling Unit – 2 visits per week
Frog Room – 3 visits per week

Changes to your child’s enrollment can be made with two-week’s notice, and refunds will be provided for paid days beyond this notice.

Reservations

If your family is unable to register for an enrollment spot, or does not have consistent childcare needs, our reservation system allows you to register for as needed childcare up to 2 weeks in advance of the date of attendance. This flexible option allows parents to send their children to CDO just one time, or multiple times throughout the year without the requirement of a consistent schedule.

Reservations are not a continuing enrollment, but do require registration with our program including paperwork and access to our billing platform.

All reservations must be a minimum of 2 ½ hours/visit with arrival times beginning at 9:00 am, 11:30 am, or 12:30 pm. Pick up times are 11:30, 12:30, and 3pm Monday-Thursday (12:30 is last pickup on Fridays)

How do you make a reservation?

Reservations open 2-weeks to the date in advance of your day of interest at 9am. To make a reservation you can stop by in person, or call us at 314-966-5223. Press 2 to reach CDO.

KUMCC Preschool parents needing CDO for any pre-approved preschool functions should reserve these CDO times as soon as the dates are known. Volunteers may make reservations with starting times of 8:45 am.

Due to the limited availability of space in each room, we may not be able to accommodate all reservation requests and recommend calling at the first available opportunity (2 weeks in advance at 9am) to make your reservation.

Please note: When KUMCC is closed, dates for taking reservations will shift to accommodate for that closure. These date changes will be communicated via email to our families.

Drop-Ins

If your family needs last minute childcare or is unable to secure a reservation for a needed date, our drop in attendance provides an additional option for securing care.

Drop in spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority given to persons in the building when we open at 9:00 am. Drop in spots are limited to one drop-in space available each morning at the time of opening in the Tadpole Room, the Pollywog / Frogling Rooms and the Frog Room. The minimum Drop-In charge is for one hour.

What is the best way to utilize our drop in spot?

Parents should feel free to call us the day before to see if the drop in spot is still available as sometimes this must be utilized for staff member’s children who have been called in to cover for other staff.  While we can never guarantee the drop in spot the day before, we can alert you if we know that it is unavailable, or if other families have inquired about that specific date.

If the drop in spot is available, families should arrive early to claim the drop in spot (since this is first come first serve, the first person requesting the drop in spot in line will receive it).  Our staff can then confirm the availability of the drop in spot and potential length of visit available for your kiddo on that day.

Early Drop Off

KUMCC Preschool, in cooperation with Children’s Day Out, is opening their Early Morning Drop-Off to CDO attendees ages 2 1⁄2 through Pre-K.

Drop-Off begins at 8:00 am and your child will be brought to CDO at the 9:00 am opening. The cost is $8.00/hour and attendance is by enrollment only.

Please call KUMCC at 314-966-5223 to enroll.
